Loss of Faith - Is That Bad?
Don't know if you are or have been a Christian in the past. But at some point, should you question your faith, you will likely run into an odd problem.
The other believers don't seem to have an answer for you.
It's as if you fell in the water, and you might pull them in too! How can that be?! Well, to be fair, maybe it goes back to 'churches' ... they believe much the same by definition. Your absence of faith means you might not be one of them!
Here's something to think about. If you read the Bible just a little(!), you'll immediately notice most of the Bible people were constantly 'failing'. Adam and Eve didn't get very far! Noah's buddies kind of 'drowned'. Jacob seemed oddly incompetent, though he did beat the angel up. And Joseph's brothers were tremendously insecure. Ever think about ELEVEN(!) brothers putting the twelvth in a well?
How about Jesus' times? Peter! Other than a great sermon on Pentecost, he seemed to always get it wrong. Jesus never fired him. On the day Jesus was busily about to get 'strung up', Peter was outside keeping nice and comfy around the fire. Later after they stuffed Jesus' body in the cave, Peter went fishing. And was just a little surprised that Jesus showed up! Jesus didn't seem very angry.
Now, do you really think somebody made this up?! Well, anyway, what we forget is that almost all of the Bible people made a fairly large number of mistakes. They had to have lost faith. Big time, no?
So, maybe you question your beliefs? Got your life a bit screwed up (a lot?!).
Well, settle down, there. Take it one step at a time. Think it through. Jesus looks to be pretty patient. Wants you to succeed!
Go back through your life. Read up on Jesus. See if he's not what you're looking for. Don't get confused with the other believers. They're trying hard too, but 'periodically' (often?) miss the boat too. Just like Peter. Learn to be patient with yourself and listen to what you really value. Go 'fishing'. Who knows who'll show up!
Loss of faith? It happens now and then.
"You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord', and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."
(John 13:13-15 NIV)
"If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts."
(1 Jn 1:10 NLT)
