Your God!
Yes, your very own! Does that sound odd? Well, it would be odd if you created your own! But then, what good would your 'created' god do for you? Actually when you think about the concept of 'build-a-god', the result is probably not far from how you perceive all those gods around the world! They seem just a bit 'contrived'.

What you need is a 'true' god. Plus one that can do stuff that you struggle 'mightily' to do each day. One that understands your death.

What? Ah, but that is the issue, is it not? 'For some reason' you're alive now. And then in a few years, you'll be dead. Why? You might surmise where you came from. You might even surmise where you'll go after death. But you can't understand 'why' you are here. And 'why' you'll die?

Well, you ninny. It's really not that hard to figure out. If there's bunches of gods over thousands of years and you wonder 'which one?', well, it's got to be the one that stuck around for all those thousands of years, doesn't it? The one that didn't 'die'.

If you're a 'little' surprised by this argument, it's actually the same argument that the ancient Egyptians thought about (theirs died with them). And the same argument is also found in the Bible. You're not alone in this question, or the simplicity of the answer!

But I know where your mind is going next! The 'Bible' has just a 'few' problems, right? OK. Go back to the library and read all those books on issues with the Bible. It's quite interesting and also lengthy. Write all the problems down. After you read a few books, you'll notice it's the same problems being discussed. And what about those problems?

Well, first, they almost all involve 'claims' about the Bible. Not the actual Bible. What is meant by that? Here's an example. The books point out errors in the various older Bible histories. Therefore ... a 'god' couldn't have written it. Well, first, does the Bible ever claim 'error free'? Or that a god literally wrote each word? The Bible doesn't but the believers did (and do). In Jesus time, they were well aware of issues in the old writings. It didn't bother them. Now try this. Let every criticism be 'true'. And read the Bible as if all the 'problems' are indeed true. What has changed?

Where you end up is: (1) The Bible is indeed ancient. You won't find much that's stuck around for so long. (2) It regularly attracts people across all cultures and times and (3) It discusses 'miracles' which, whether you agree or don't, can't be proven nor disproven. In a nutshell, you're at the mercy of the testimony of peoples that have lived across 4,000 years. And a message that defies the ages.

It works out to 'faith'. What is your alternative? Build-a-god?
"Before you (non-Jews) knew (the true) God, you were slaves to so-called gods that do not even exist."

(Gal 4:8 NLT)
"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace ..."

(Phi 4:6-7a NLT)
