Authenticity vs Rules
Do you care about 'authenticity'? Today's new word ... 'truthiness'! A generation ago, it was 'meaningfulness'? Or being 'real'. It's interesting that most people do seem to care, no matter their age, or for that matter, their culture. If you read older books, you can even find previous words for the same feeling. Remember the song words .... 'honesty ... it's such a lonely word ...'?
So, when you go to church, what do you see? Quite frankly, you're likely to see 'rules'. And compliance. Your compliance! You comply? You ok. You not comply? You not ok! That's what we mean by 'rules'.
'What if' you make mistakes? Maybe you 'really' not ok! Does that make you a hypocrite? What if you question the belief? Hmmmm. That's a violation of the rules, isn't it?
Maybe you agree with this statement: ... When you see rules compliance in relation to religious belief, you start to question 'authenticity'? Is 'belief' really still there, or just a habit? A habit from your parents? A habit from your friends? Or just a habit from your past?
Do you seek 'honesty'? 'Meaning'? 'True belief'?
Then, to be realistic, at least for Christianity, you need to do a little 'research'! Figure out what 'your' belief needs to be.
It's certainly fine to talk to others and learn. But when the day is over, it's your life and your authenticity.
Jesus: "They (the religious leaders) crush people with impossible religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden. Everything they do is for show ..."
(Mat 23:4-5a NLT)
"Then Jesus said 'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble, and gentle at heart ...."
(Mat 11:28-29a NLT)
