One of the mysteries of the ancient ones, is that they generally stuck to a pottery style over time. This classifier below is from Colton/Hargrave 1937 and is provided mainly for your enjoyment (since some changes have occurred since then).
--- INSTRUCTIONS ----
(1) First start on the left and classify your sherd (eg is its surface altered?).
(2) After you get a 'yes', then move to the next column for a sub-type, and so forth.
(3) A 'P>' means to go the far right for the likely pottery name. May have several possibles.
(4) Some 'boxes' refer you to a special grouping, which are on the next page.
(5) For an approximate physical location for the identified type, see LOCATIONS
