Home / History (Zane Grey page 1)
Zane Grey is near and dear to our Sedona hearts, since his absolutely best novel (and probably the best novel EVER written) highlighted Oak Creek Canyon and West Fork ('Call of the Canyon'). But alas, Payson 'thinks' they own Zane, complete with his cabin, but that's only because after he wrote the best novel ever, what more could there be? Point well taken.
When you go to the library and see a shelf full of Zane Grey books, you wonder ... where to start? But Zane's stories, though sort of historical, were (often) geographically accurate. He rarely used real town names, but the first letter of the pseudo-name matched the actual town. And, you can almost track the story line, he was that disciplined. We've often thought in 'Sunset Pass' that even today, you could find the little bridge under which the sadly evil rancher was hiding the cow hides!
