Dancehall of the Dead (1973) was the second of Tony's mysteries, following Blessingway. It contrasts the Navajo view of death with the Zuni culture (possibly Chacoan). Definitely read Hillerman's 'The Great Taos Bank Robbery' (also 1973). Two stories were used in Dancehall: 'The Messenger Birds' has a good quote from Tony. "Fiction demands credibility." And 'The Hunt for the Lost American" describes the discovery of Folsom points. Additionally, a third story was later used in 'First Eagle'.

Maps below: a wide area map, the Zuni-Ramah area, and the Zuni Pueblo area.
Finding Hillerman is designed to help you understand story locations, while reading his mysteries. Plus, you learn about the Navajo Nation and Zuni!
