Banks All of Sedona's banks are in West Sedona ...4 or 5 sprinkled along both sides of SH89A. Village of Oak Creek also has one at the corner of SH179 and Jack's Canyon Rd. Basha's This grocery chain grew up in Arizona and is pretty nice. Visit the one in Kayenta! Prices reflect Sedona but with their card, are not too bad. If you're a wine sampler, chat with the wine-guy for interesting buys. In the same parking lot is the furniture consignment store ... not to be missed! Chapel of the Holy Cross One of Sedona's most famous landmarks, it's located south of Sedona on SH179 before you leave the city limits. It's a great visit and good for your soul. If you're catholic, St John's is the sponsor and is located on SH89A, just as you enter West Sedona driving west. Gasoline There's a station at the 'Y' intersection of SH89A and SH179, which normally has higher prices reflecting its location. West Sedona has three outlets (AM/PM, Shell/CircleK, Giant). The Village of Oak Creek also has a Chevron and a Giant. Hillside Village Just south of the Oak Creek bridge on SH179 are a series of galleries, all quite enjoyable to visit. Additionally if you're hungry, there's restaurants in Hillside. MORE INFO. Library Located just off of Dry Creek Rd in far west Sedona, they're great for internet access. We also like to catch the various newspapers and the volunteers are really nice! McDonalds Sedona only has about three fast food ... McDonalds in the Safeway SC, Kentucky Fried near the Basha SC and Burger King at the 'Y' at SH89A and SH179. The Village of Oak Creek also has a Wendy's in the Giant center. Our McD's is unique for its turquoise arches ... nice to munch outside and enjoy the view. Medical Center Has an emergency room and other basic support. Folks are really nice. For more serious issues, the Cottonwood hospital is on 89A in west Cottonwood towards Jerome. The Flagstaff Medical Center is north of downtown Flagstaff. Moview - Harkins They're about half-way along SH89A in west Sedona in a long strip-center. Good for kiddos on a rainy Sedona day! They also support the Sedona Film Festival each year. Museum - Sedona Heritage This is about a mile up Jordan Rd from SH89A in Uptown. It's quite good ... housed in the old Jordan family home. Includes Sedona history as well as the Jordan orchards. The walk along Jordan Rd also has a number of history markers that are interesting. PO #1 This is Sedona's main post office near the 'Y' at SH89A and SH179. For Saturday service, visit PO#2 in West Sedona. The Village of Oak Creek also has a post office west of the Chevron station at SH179. PO #2 The branch PO is in the same strip shopping center as the Harkins movie theater, about half way along SH89A in West Sedona. It's on the end of the building and not too easy to see. Open on Saturdays. Poco Diablo Resort This is an 'affordable' resort with a good exercise room, newly refurbished tennis courts and a (very) small golf course. The view is great and it's near the creek. Police Hopefully you shouldn't need their services, and you DO drive under the limit, right?! But if there's any problem they're great for help; located in city hall just off of SH89A near Dry Creek Rd. Safeway SC Some people like Basha's; some Safeway. They recently renovated, though aisles are tight. In the same area is a nice mexican restaurant across from the McDonalds ... good buffet. Sedona Airport It's up on top of the mesa in the middle of town. It has a nice viewing area for gorgeous sunsets. Additionally the airport restaurant near the terminal is great in the evening, and also affordable. Tlaquepaque This is along SH179, just north of the bridge over Oak Creek. Abe Miller dreamed of a hispanic village, with artist apartments and galleries. The apartments didn't pan out, so now you have more galleries! It's slowly being 'yuppified', but still a nice visit. MORE INFO. Walgreens This is our only full-line drug store. So, as you can imagine, it's quite busy. Nice benches outside to view the red rocks, while you wait for your spouse! Yavapai College Sedona is in both Yavapai and Coconino counties, thus our split personality. But Yavapai Community College has a great selection of courses at the Sedona campus, and a really good seniors program. Also nearby is a good trailhead and nature walk. |
