Home / Navajo & Hopi Churches
Yes, in Northern Arizona, there's Christians everywhere! Now, it is true the Navajo and Hopi churches are the best, but that's beside the point. Worshiping with fellow-Christians is great, everywhere you go! On this page, we thought we'd give you a nice introduction to our fellow believers north of us.
Spreading the gospel on the reservation is unusual due to the language and the culture. It really needs special care to be successful. Read CPRMinistries advice; it's quite good.
WIDE AREA MAP

Missions Before we get started, it's good to look at a map. The Navajo Nation and Hopi combine to be larger that some states!

So, here are the major highways, along with some of the Navajo communities you'll meet. 'Sedona' is on the far-left bottom, to get your bearings.

We colored some of the major attractions green, so you can see what's near your route.

If you need a Navajo/English Interlinear, this is the best (and only) choice. We love it, because it has a back-translation, showing where Greek words/concepts have trouble in the translation. Read more HERE.

SOME BIBLE CHURCHES YOU CAN VISIT AND/OR HELP

Below are a good selection of churches you might like to visit and share in worship. Keep in mind, the worship is often in Navajo, but that's what is so enjoyable. God loves all the languages, and all His children! These are mainly 'Bible' churches. On the internet, you can also find regular denominational churches if you prefer. The 'Bible churches' seem to need the most help. And as you well know, churches can always use some extra change, along with prayers and even some muscles! Many of the churches on the reservation need pastors and they in-turn have to eat! So, here's a great chance to help out, if you can.

We've grouped them by their supporting organizations, mainly if you need a contact, have a question, or would like to assist them.

The sort or ordering is geographic, outward from Sedona/Flagstaff AZ. Individual church names in bold are easy to visit, along main travel routes.

TRIBAL CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATIONS YOU CAN ALSO HELP

You don't 'HAVE' to go to the reservations to help. Along with prayer, there's many Native-American Christian organzations on the internet you can take a look at. See where you fit in. Please keep in mind, to always do your homework, and contact them, to make sure you have a good fit.

Flagstaff Mission to the Navajos (FMN)
SITE: http://www.fmn.org/
LOCATION/CONTACT: 6 W Cherry Ave, Flagstaff, AZ 86001 (928) 774-2802

> Goals: "Flagstaff Mission to the Navajo's (FMN) is a non-denominational, evangelical mission with the goal to fulfill the Great Commission among the Navajo (Dine') people. It seeks to accomplish this goal by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, discipling Dine' believers, and establishing indigenous Dine' churches."

> Outreach Ministries: "The summer months are devoted to a variety of evangelistic outreach ministries: Vacation Bible Schools, Five-Day Clubs, Camp Meetings, Bible Conferences, Youth Retreats, and our own annual Family Camp. Each church is involved in at least five of these events throughout the summer. At Christmas, FMN in pardnership with each church conducts evangelistic meetings in churches, boarding schools, and community meeting halls throughout the various reservation communities. during these meetings we give Christmas gifts provided by faithful supporters to everyone who comes. For many this is the only time of the season where they hear of the gospel of Jesus Christ. These year-round ministries provide us with unmatched opportunities to tell of God's love and gift of eternal life."

> Possible help: "We offer three possible short-term ministry opportunities. Your church group can come as a ministry team to help with a vacation Bible school, Family Camp, or other outreach ministries, as a work project team, or as a combined work/ministry team. If God is leading you into short term missionary service, this may be your window of opportunity! For further information on how you and/or your church group can get involved in any area of service, please contact our Field Director."

Indian Bible College - Flagstaff AZ
Founded in 1958, IBC is a four-year Bible college whose main goal is to train native-american ministers for service with the various tribes across the United States. They're non-denominational and hold to a belief in the inerrancy of the Bible and its sole use for salvation (especially as regards native-american alternatives). Currently they have approximately 50 students, with 110 graduates serving Christ on the reservations.
SITE: http://www.indianbible.org/
LOCATION: 2918 N. Aris St. Flagstaff AZ 86004
CONTACT: 928-774-3890 http://www.indianbible.org/contactus.php

If you live or are visiting the Flagstaff AZ area, they welcome visitors; the campus is in East Flagstaff, just off of 4th St (turn from Rt 66 where the big bridge crosses the railroad), then turning west from 4th St on Cedar Ave.

> Possible help:
Prayer Partners: 'Call or email IBC to sign up for regular email prayer alerts or the schools quarterly newsletter.'

Financial: 'The General Fund depends upon the support of Christian friends. These friends and the grace of God have made the school possible over the years. The General Fund pays for approximately 80% of the cost of operating the school. The remaining 20% consists mainly of student tuition and fees. All staff members raise funds to pay their salary. The school is currently unable to supplement their income. Call or email us to learn more about staff that are in need of additional support. Even with reduced tuition many students need financial assistance to attend Indian Bible College for training. Call the business office if you would like to contribute or endow a new scholarship fund.'

Short-term Partners:
- Work a year or less as faculty and support staff!
- 'Perform necessary maintenance and special work projects on our campus buildings. These are scheduled mainly between semesters in the summer and winter. Projects may include reshingling roofs, repairing fences, replacing concrete walks, hanging doors, dry-walling, electrical work, general campus clean up, and other jobs. Work crew partners may stay as short as a day or up to a month depending on the need . During the summer work teams may be housed in campus housing.'

Our Comments (ChristianSedona):
If you ever REALLY wanted to help in the educational effort for pastors among the tribes, this would be it. They run 'bare-bones', and the tuition charge for students is unbelievably affordable ... due to the help from fellow Christians. Go to their site and take a look. And if you live in Flagstaff or nearby, summertime is a good time to roll up your sleeves!

Ameritribes
Ameritribes is a much larger organization, but does have direct involvement here in the Sedona/Flagstaff area and on the Navajo reservation. They, along with Wycliffe were instrumental in creating the Navajo language Bible.

CPRMinisties is actually affiliated under Aenon, also located in Farmington NM and the World Harvest Center. We ran into CPRMinistries, when we found Ron Corley's Navajo Interlinear Bible on their site (the Interlinear is now our favorite Bible; really good). The text below is from their site.

> Goals: "God has laid upon our hearts to advance the Kingdom of God on the Navajo Reservation by teaching God's Word, and leading them into practical day to day living in Christ, promoting the Kingdom in their hearts, in their churches, in their communities and chapters, and to equip them to minister and carry the Kingdom throughout the Navajo Reservation, to other reservations, and to the world."

> Outreach Ministries: "We currently are serving in two areas of ministry. The first, a food ministry, provides assistance and provisions to those in need. Sometimes it is simply a box of food and/or clothing, sometimes minor maintenance and repair of living quarters, or transportation to/from grocery store, doctor, etc., or anything else that we are able to do." They also help at the Many Waters Mission, and Steve Derbie and his wife Rosalie also teach at the church in Teec Nos Pos AZ, as well as the Adult Bible Study at World Harvest Center, sending their weekly study to about 35 pastors on the Reservation.

> Possible help: Their site page is well worth a read (included on this site verbatim because it's so good): http://www.cprministries.net/partner.html

LOCATION/CONTACT: Navajo BIC Mission 240 Hwy 57 Bloomfield, NM 87413

> Goals: "Worship . . . Native style. That’s how you would define First Nations Gathering. Ministry here is contextual, which simply means we worship the Creator in the context of the culture. We encourage our people to worship God in the way He created them. In everything, we strive to Honor our Creator and lift up the name of Jesus. Our vision is to present the gospel to those who have not heard; or who have heard and rejected it because it seemingly threatened their culture. God’s presence in a particular culture does not eliminate that culture but enhances it. You are invited to join us whenever you are in our area."

Outreach Ministries:
- Summer outreach: http://web.mac.com/rezduane/DesertWind/Summer_Outreaches.html
- Nizhoni Christian Academy
- Overcommers (alchohol addiction)

> Goals: "The primary focus of the ministry is to proclaim the Good News to Native Americans, using the inerrant, infallible Word of God as the sole basis for ministry. > Outreach Ministries:

> Possible help:
