AIRPORT LOOP TRAIL (AP)This one is just
beautiful either in the early morning (sunrise), or in the afternoon (sunset). Basically, it just loops around Airport Mesa, but the views of Sedona and the red rocks are fantastic. Make sure you bring your
binoculars and camera. Rest awhile and just look!
DIRECTIONS: Turn off of 89A in 'east' West Sedona at Airport Road (across from Best Western sign). Drive up toward the mesa about a mile. Park where the road turns to go up to the airport.
CHIMNEY ROCK TRAIL (CH)We like this one because it's convenient and quiet! You can either hike UP and encircle
Chimney Rock (2m total), or just go east along the
Thunder Mountain base for as far as you'd like. Both have great views and are especially nice in the morning. Limited climbing.
DIRECTIONS: In West Sedona, from 89A turn on Dry Creek Rd. After a mile, turn right on Thunder Mountain Rd; drive about 2m. Trailhead parking is before you leave the housing development.
HUCKABY TRAIL (HT)This trail begins from the Schnebly Hill Rd parking and
bounces around the hill into Oak Creek Canyon ending at Midgley Bridge. Nice views of uptown with
benches for resting; nice beautiful sunsets. If you
mountain bike, you'll love the trail here, as you drop into the canyon. Non-technical.
DIRECTIONS: Just before SH179 crosses the creek, turn on Schnebly Hill Rd. Go out about 2mi; the trail parking is on the left. The trail starts on the north end of parking going west.
JIM THOMPSON TRAIL (JT)This trail used to be the
old wagon trail into Oak Creek, so it's quite historical and has nice views of Uptown Sedona, below Ship Rock. You do climb, but it's a slow easy climb (for wagons!) and about 2m one way. Start either from up Jordan Rd in Sedona or from Midgley Bridge, about 1m north of Sedona on 89A. Check our
HISTORY TOURS! This was the rest of 'The Lane'.
DIRECTIONS: Jordan Road connects with 89A right there in Uptown Sedona. Drive north about 2m to the END (dirt road section). Trail heads east toward Ship Rock. Opposite at Midgley Bridge parking.
