CRESCENT MOON/BALDWIN TRAIL (CM)Crescent Moon is an easy walk along the creek from the picnic area. Crossing to the other side is the Balwin Trail, which then climbs the side of
Cathedral Rock with a REALLY nice view. Only want the
Balwin Trail? Trailhead is at the end of Verde Valley School Rd from the Village of Oak Creek.
DIRECTIONS: In far West Sedona, turn south on UPPER Red Rock Loop (at the high school). Follow the road down into the valley; watch for the official brown Crescent Moon signs.
MIDGLEY BRIDGE/GRASSHOPPER FLATS (MB)Park at Midgley Bridge; then follow the trail down UNDER the bridge, going up-canyon and down to the creek. Distance is not far but some climbing coming back!
Very nice pictures at each turn. Mornings are definitely the best time.
Hot in the afternoon.
DIRECTIONS: Midgley Bridge is about a mile north of Sedona up Oak Creek Canyon. If you can't find parking at the bridge (popular!), Grasshopper Point Day Use is another option a little ways up canyon.
RED ROCK STATE PARK (RR)This a very nice state park, combining history,
nature trails, and various programs by the park. You can pretty much pick your favorite path, depending on your interest, with
nice creek views. Limited climbing in some areas. Take a look at
Apache Fire.
DIRECTIONS: After you leave Sedona on hwy 89A going toward Cottonwood, at the bottom of the hill turn left onto LOWER Red Rock Loop. Go about 3m; the park is near end of paved road.
WEST FORK - LONG (WF)We have the start of this one on our easy hikes. After you cross the bridge and pass the old resort, you move up into West Fork Canyon. The trail
criss-crosses the creek repeatedly. No climbing; 3m one-way. The forest and creek views are
gorgeous; bring your camera!
Autumn colors are unbelievable. Winter waterfalls are also pretty, where water comes off of high cliffs.
DIRECTIONS: Drive up Oak Creek Canyon on hwy 89A; it's well marked with a a parking lot on the left. Weekends, get there early.
