Home / Hiking! (on page 1)
Mmmm, hiking around Sedona. Comfortable temperature, colorful rocks, easy walks and thrilling climbs. Take a small Bible with you and during a rest-time, read a few verses, and let them sink in. It's truly God's country and His Word. What a combination. But first, some friendly advice:
* SLICK-ROCK: when the red rock gets wet, it gets slick. Be careful!
* STORMS: they come up quickly, often in the summer. Keep an eye out for lightning.
* PEBBLES: Yep. On the way up, no problem. On the way down, they act like little marbles under your feet. I've hit the ground on my rear twice so far!
* ANIMALS: The little sneaky things are out there, so be aware. If you see javelina with their babies, stear clear. And of course snakes. Our skunks seem to lie on the roads to get run over, so don't hike on the highways.
* SOCIAL TRAILS: That's for you independent folk that just can't stick to the trails. We have so many visitors, YOUR new path becomes someone else's new path. Or vis-versa. Please stay on the trails.
* WATER: Take water with you. And your cellphone. Do your body a favor (water is healthy!) and things do happen.
* RED ROCK PASSES: Need them. By day, week or year from USFS. They are at the more popular trailheads, parks and visitor center in the Village of Oak Creek.
* BEST HIKING MAP:: Beartooth Publishing's Sedona Outdoor Recreation Map (so pretty, you'll want to put it one your wall!)
