Do you LOVE Tony Hillerman mysteries? We do. Leaphorn and Chee, but where in the BLAZES were they??

We've created these maps and pictures to help, while you read. Most boxes below are for a book; click on it to follow the guys (and Bernie) in their travels!
-- HILLERMAN-ESE FOR YOU --
Best Map: AAA Indian Country Guide Map (Leaphorn's favorite)
Best Books: 'Great Taos Bank Robbery' (explains 'Tony'), and 'Old Trading Posts of the Four Corners' (Berkholz). Both are REQUIRED READING!
DancehallDancehall of the Dead (1973)
One of Hillerman's early mysteries, it centers around Zuni NM, south of Gallup. Mixes the Navajo and Zuni cultures. Discussed by Tony in 'Taos'.
ListeningListening Woman (1978)
If you enjoy the area around Lake Powell and the San Juan, this one is for you. Takes you a while to figure it out, but Hillerman gives the clues for free.
DarkWindDark Wind (1982)
This one's a great chance to learn about the area directly north of Hopi, and the difficulties of two great tribes near each other. That windmill is REALLY perplexing!
ThiefTimeThief of Time (1988)
Chaco Canyon is an enigma in its own right. But add the 'Checkerboard', and you really have a great story. Especially if you've run the San Juan!
CoyoteCoyote Waits (1990)
This one centers around Shiprock NM and its namesake Ship Rock. But trying to fit the distances in, along with Beautiful Mountain, isn't easy!
Fallen ManFallen Man (1996)
Climbing Ship Rock, a 'volcanic neck' is quite a stretch. But leaving the body up there!? Then add Canyon de Chelly, and you have another twister of a mystery.
First EagleFirst Eagle (1998)
If you're driving north from Flagstaff on US89a, you can see the location for this one. Due south of Tuba City, it's a scientific nightmare but a true situation!
BadgerHunting Badger (1999)
This mystery occurs in southeast Utah, where not too many visit. The exciting story really follows the geography closely. Great sightseeing too!
Wailing WindWailing Wind (2002)
Driving west toward Gallup NM on I-40, you'll see Ft Wingate and a large series of ammunition bunkers. What could Hillerman have dreamed up here?!
ShapeShape Shifters (2006)
We like this one since much of it is in Flagstaff, and then all the way east on I-40! This was his last, and still top quality. One of his most romantic.
